Menopause Didn’t Just Change My Body... It Felt Like It Changed Me

There is something nobody properly prepares women for when it comes to menopause.

Nobody tells you that one day you may wake up and not fully recognize yourself emotionally anymore.

Nobody tells you that your body can feel exhausted while your nervous system feels completely overstimulated.

Nobody tells you about the crying.

Or the rage.

Or the strange feeling that your mind and emotions are suddenly running on a completely different operating system than they used to.

And before anybody says it, yes, I know life itself is stressful. I know women carry a tremendous amount emotionally. We carry homes, families, grief, trauma, bills, responsibilities, disappointments, and memories that never really leave us.

But this felt different.

This felt deeper than “just stress.”

Lately, I’ve been waking up crying in the mornings, and not just emotional crying. Rageful crying. The kind where you wake up already feeling emotionally overloaded before your feet even touch the floor.

And if you know me personally, then you know how out of character that is for me.

I’ve always been the woman who wakes up thankful. The woman making the bed first thing in the morning while saying, “Thank you, Lord, for another day.” The woman trying to keep moving forward no matter what life throws at her.

So when I started waking up feeling emotionally hijacked, it honestly scared me.

Because menopause doesn’t just affect a woman physically.

It affects the woman as a whole.

And I think women deserve more honest conversations about that.

Most people hear the word menopause and immediately think:

  • hot flashes

  • weight gain

  • night sweats

And yes, those things are real too.

But what about:

  • anxiety

  • emotional instability

  • crying spells

  • irritability

  • rage

  • brain fog

  • exhaustion

  • sleep problems

  • feeling mentally disconnected from yourself

Because those symptoms can deeply affect a woman’s quality of life too.

According to the Mayo Clinic, menopause can cause emotional symptoms including mood swings, irritability, sleep disruption, anxiety, emotional changes, and difficulty concentrating.

The Cleveland Clinic also explains that hormonal changes during menopause can impact mental and emotional health, contributing to symptoms like depression, anxiety, mood swings, and fatigue.

And honestly?

I think a lot of women are silently struggling with this while pretending they are “fine” because society has conditioned women to keep functioning no matter what.

We still have to work.
Still have to cook.
Still have to answer messages.
Still have to pay bills.
Still have to show up for everybody else.

Even while feeling like our hormones are throwing our nervous systems into complete chaos.

That’s why I finally made an appointment with my doctor to talk about hormone therapy and possible options moving forward.

Because I realized something important:

There is no shame in needing support.

Women are often taught to just “deal with it,” but I do not believe suffering in silence should be the expectation for women in this stage of life.

And while I’m figuring all of this out, I’ve also started trying to support my body in smaller everyday ways too.

Now let me be clear:
I am not saying vitamins or supplements magically “fix” menopause because menopause is complex, and every woman’s body is different.

Always talk with your doctor or healthcare provider before starting anything new, especially if you have health conditions or take medications.

But these are some of the things I personally added into my own wellness routine while trying to support my stress levels, overall health, energy, gut health, and emotional well-being during this season of life:

  • Goldie Apple Cider Vinegar Gummies

  • Goldie Pre + Postbiotic Gummies

  • Goldie Ashwagandha Gummies

  • Women’s multivitamins

  • Menopause support gummies

And honestly, one of the biggest mindset shifts I’m learning right now is this:

Maybe this season of life is not about trying to become who we used to be.

Maybe it’s about learning how to care for the woman we are becoming.

Because women in this stage of life are still valuable.
Still beautiful.
Still intelligent.
Still worthy.
Still allowed to take up space.
Still allowed to need rest.
Still allowed to ask questions.
Still allowed to seek help.

And we deserve honest conversations about what menopause can actually feel like, emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually.

If you are struggling too, please know this:

You are not weak.
You are not failing.
And you are definitely not alone.

What has been the hardest part of menopause or perimenopause for you personally? Let’s talk about it openly, because women have stayed silent about this stuff for far too long.
